The All Party Parliamentary Group for EU-US Trade & Investment was launched in 2013 with the objective to hold briefings and events to promote awareness, informed debate and support for the TTIP among Parliamentarians of all parties, and with the business community. BritishAmerican Business supports the group and provided its Secretariat between 2013 – 2015. It is chaired by John Spellar MP.
Aims
- To provide a focus for UK Parliamentary cross-Party support for a comprehensive EU-US trade and investment agreement.
- To contribute to greater public debate and understanding of the potential benefits of a comprehensive EU/US trade agreement to British consumers, workers and business.
- To strengthen Parliamentary and public scrutiny of the UK Government’s action to help secure a successful investment and trade agreement, and its preparation to ensure the greatest possible gains for UK consumers, workers and business.
Activities
- Arrange discussions, briefings and visits for UK Parliamentarians of all parties with those involved, or with an expert interest, in negotiating and implementing the EU-US investment and trade deal – business organisations, consumer groups, trade unions, regulators, academics, policy and economic analysts, civil servants.
- Develop relations with Parliamentarians in the EU and the US involved in work connected with the trade and investment agreement, including the EU international trade (INTA) committee in the European Parliament.
- Produce regular summary briefings, bulletins for UK Parliamentarians on key issues & developments.
- Encourage analysis & research into the impact, opportunities and risks linked to the potential EU-US trade & investment partnership.
